Pfizer Inc. has launched two new erectile dysfunction treatments, the first being Viagra Connect, a treatment for erectile dysfunction that has gained approval from U. S. health authorities.
The first treatment will be developed by Pfizer, which says it hopes to launch the treatments in the United States in the next three years.
Viagra Connect is also on the U. market, and it will be available through a combination of two different drugs: a generic version of the popular erectile dysfunction drug called sildenafil citrate, and the brand-name version of Pfizer’s popular Pfizer medicines Viagra and Cialis.
Pfizer and U. health authorities, which approved the erectile dysfunction drug in 1998, are responsible for approving and endorsing new drugs. Under the drug’s patent, the U. government has exclusive rights to grant exclusive rights to one of the two drugs, which are generic versions of the same drug, to treat the same condition.
The drugs, which are sold under various brand names such as Revatio and Viagra Connect, work in exactly the same way. The only difference is that the pills are identical in the way they work, with sildenafil and tadalafil essentially being the same active ingredient.
Viagra Connect will be available in 50 mg tablets at participating pharmacies, as well as at retail pharmacies and online stores.
Viagra Connect will likely be available in both branded and generic form. Pfizer hopes to start selling the new treatments in the U. in the second half of next year.

Pfizer’s other brand-name drugs, including Cialis and Levitra, have their patent expirations extended beyond the United States.
The medicines’ active ingredients, which include sildenafil and tadalafil, are identical to the active ingredients found in the branded drug, but their effect can differ.
Pfizer’s erectile dysfunction treatment, Viagra Connect, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1998 for the treatment of ED, but approval was not formally given to other erectile dysfunction treatments until 2006.
In January, the FDA approved Pfizer’s treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia, also known as BPH, in 100 men who were 40 years and older. The men who took the drug for four months then took an additional four months of an erectile dysfunction drug, called sildenafil citrate, to see if it could help men who had ED.
The drug was not approved by the FDA for use in women.
Viagra Connect will be available as 50 mg tablets at participating pharmacies, as well as at retail pharmacies and online stores.
Viagra Connect is expected to become available by the second half of this year.
A separate study, published in the December issue of the journal Sexual Medicine, indicated that up to 40 percent of men with ED were not satisfied with their sexual performance.
The study found that about 15 percent of the men who used Viagra had ED, compared to about 2 percent of those who took sildenafil citrate. The results were presented at the American Urological Association annual meeting.
“This study indicates that men with ED who are satisfied with their sexual performance can now have other treatments that work to improve their sexual satisfaction,” said Dr. Irwin Goldstein, director of urology at Northwestern University’s School of Medicine.
“In the U. S., the FDA has approved treatments that have a longer duration of action, such as oral and intracavernosal treatments, and the drugs may have the potential to become generic versions of the same drugs.”
In addition to Viagra and Cialis, the drug’s active ingredients are listed under several brand names. Pfizer said it has received approval from the U. Food and Drug Administration for sildenafil citrate, tadalafil and vardenafil.
The Food and Drug Administration approval for sildenafil citrate came from the U. Food and Drug Administration in 1998. The drug’s active ingredient is sildenafil citrate, which is similar to the active ingredient found in Viagra.
The drug’s patent for sildenafil citrate expired in June 2010, giving the U.
